Tags in iTunes – anyone?
What Ⅰ would truly love is to have some kind of tag system in iTunes. The classification „genre“ doesn’t just make it anymore. When you have classical music you can have all sorts of styles, moods and whatever. Ⅰ do need some other way to find the music ⅰ want, create playlists automatically with a certain set of style, mood and genre. Right now my music is classified by genre like this: „Electronic – Latin“, which makes this better – but then this clutters up the interface, the list of genres at my iPod etc. Tagging or „keywords“ as it is called in iPhoto would be it. Hey, one could even link up tags in iPhoto and iTunes in order to find the best music for a slideshow or – the other way round – find good pictures for iTunes visualizer! Maybe the whole thing with Flickr-integration?
Ⅰ wish there was some way to ping apple about this – but since Ⅰ am not really fond of their feature request system (no trackback and usually no feedback) this one goes out to lazyweb.

check out Applescripts for tagging iTunes songs via Quicksilver. Very cool.

You can use the comments section to write whatever you want, then use smart playlists to organize your music by whatever’s in the comments section.
For instance, Ⅰ hate having random tracks of music floating around my iTunes library. Ⅰ prefer entire albums, but Ⅰ have a few dozen single tracks that Ⅰ organize by entering „single track“ in the comments field, then creating a smart playlist that includes all tunes with „single track“ in the comments field.
Works great for me.
Hi,
Ⅰ use tags in iTunes by using the Comments feature. Take a song, do a Get Info on it, and you’ll see an area for comments. Just put in whatever words you want for tags and save.
Then you can use Smart Playlists to organize things, like finding all songs with the tag „workout“. It’s not exactly the same, of course, but it works really well for me. Hope that helps!
Check out these scripts here.

Ⅰ use these to tag my tunes, and then use a smart play list with a condition like „grouping contains ‚mytag‘“.
You can use the Grouping field (under Get Info > Info) to do that very thing. Add your own tags and setup smart playlists accordingly. Massage at will.
Another alternative is to use static playlists as „label“ groups, and then just use smart playlists to combine at will. This is probably faster to set up than using the genre field, thanks to drag’n’drop.
Yes, there are ways to emulate Tags in iTunes, but wouldn’t it be cool if iTunes would offer native Tag support?
