    • Ähnliche Artikel bereitgestellt von Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.]]>     Wer ohne GPS mit Internet-Anbindung unterwegs ist oder mal aktuelle Staumeldungen braucht hat meistens ein kleines Problem: klar, man könnte auch im Radio die Staumeldungen hören, aber dann auch noch auf die Karte gucken, Route planen etc. kann auch nervig werden. Viel besser ist der Internet-Dienst des Südwestdeutschen Rundfunks. Hier liegen die Staumeldungen nicht nur als Text, sondern auch als Grafik vor.

    Das sieht z.B. so aus für den Stuttgarter Raum (unter der Woche ein elendiges Stauloch):

    Die Staurichtung ist farblich kodiert, die Länge direkt auf der Karte eingezeichnet. Fazit: Immer einen Blick wert vor einer Autofahrt.

    Bonus: Mit der Software PhotoStickies von Devon Technologies kann man Bilder aus dem Netz auch direkt auf dem Mac-Desktop anzeigen lassen und ist so immer informiert!

    For many years fusion power has been the hope and dream of many people. Will it actually help solve our energy problem? Save the day?

    A current post at The Oil Drum: Europe talks about fusion power and its future developments.

    Ⅰ am not going to be summarizing the post here. Please read the original post, as it is very well written. The following are just some excerpts/quotes that Ⅰ think are interesting, as well as some other links on this topic.

    Has current research failed so far?

    Critics of fusion power have categorised these experiments as so many failures because none of them have produced more output fusion power than was put in. In truth none of them were built with the intention of achieving energy break-even. All were intended to understand and develop ways of controlling the seething monster that a dense plasma at a temperature of many millions of degrees is. For the most part these experiments have, after a fair bit of modification and adjustment, reached the sort of performance hoped for.

    Will fusion power be limitless and the end to all other energy sources?

    The large scale adoption of fusion energy will see tritium used on a scale vastly greater than has ever been seen before. Something like a 220kg per year of tritium will be consumed for every 1GW of continuous electrical generation, assuming that 4GW thermal will generate 2GW electrical of which 1GW will be used to provide all the inputs to the system leaving 1GW of output power. At present world-wide electrical consumption averages to a continuous 1700GW

    Some more details on tritium:

    Since ITER will produce only a tiny proportion of the tritium it uses (at least in the early years) because the experimental test blanket modules will only cover a small area of the chamber, ITER alone will severely deplete the worlds tritium stock. If DEMO is heavily overlapped in time with ITER the tritium supply will be very critical and it will be important to get the full blanket and tritium recovery system going as soon as possible if the programme is not to be delayed.

    So, summarizing and simplifying: don’t get your hopes up yet. Fusion power might be a welcome addition to the energy mix of the future, but it will never be our only source, at least not unless we are actually developing version 2.0 or higher of the technologies (with the first commercial reactor being 1.0 at the max.). Our future will depend on clean and CO2-neutral energy sources — which will only come as a reliable mix of technologies, ranging from wind power, to geothermal energy, to wave power… and many more technologies. We should embrace all alternatives, and especially prepare for decentralized energy production.

    • Ähnliche Artikel bereitgestellt von Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.]]>     Es ist soweit, der Espresso Fuerte ist aus; hat lang gedauert bis ich ihn im Griff hatte, aber am Schluß war er recht reproduzierbar gut! Neues Spiel — neues Glück: Langen Kaffee’s Café Creme ist jetzt dran.

    Beste lateinamerikanische Kaffees, speziell geröstet. Der Kaffee wird dunkler geröstet als für herkömmlichen Filterkaffee, aber nicht so stark wie bei Espresso Röstungen. Ideal für die Zubereitung in Kolbendruckmaschinen

    Erster Eindruck: hellere Röstung, erinnert mich von den Problemen her an den sortenreinen Kaffee, den ich im Februar bei der Schwarzwald-Rösterei mitgenommen habe, der deutlich sauer war im Geschmack. Die Erste Tasse, gemahlen wie der Fuerte auf minimalem Mahlgrad, war deutlich sauer im Geschmack und der Espresso relativ kalt: zu fein gemahlen, zu fest gestampft. Beides Probleme, die in Griff zu bekommen sein sollten. Eventuell ebenfalls noch ein Temperaturproblem, die Gaggie war noch nicht wirklich aufgeheizt.

    Zweiter Versuch mit einer Mahlung, die drei Stufen über der feinsten liegt — besser. Der Durchfluß stimmt jetzt in etwa: ein Doppelter Espresso in etwa 30 Sekunden, wobei ich ja tendenziell lieber in Richtung Ristretto tendiere, da ist die Viskosität deutlich höher und der Geschmack angenehmer… je nach Bohne. Zurück zum Versuchsobjekt: der Café Creme hat kaum Crema hier, ganz im Gegensatz zum Espresso Fuerte. Geschmacklich würde ich ihn jetzt im Moment eher fruchtig sauer einordnen, aber das ist ganz deutlich noch eine Frage der Temperatur & der Exktraktion. Bei einem Versuch mit relativ heißer Maschine komme ich auch etwas weg vom sauren Charakter, muß aber noch ein wenig spielen bis ich den Geschmack besser einordnen kann. Vielleicht ist das ja wirklich eine Bohne für andere Kaffee-Arten als unterextrahierte Espressi?

But it all comes down to utilizing the powers of teh DevonThink AI: group stuff together that needs to be grouped. Group similar stuff. File Things wherever they might belong. This way the AI learns and will help you later when filing new stuff where it might belong to.

    You could also tag your files (e.g. via their comments) and then grab the tagged files via a smart folder (see 43Folders for a detailed article on this). btw a very useful feature that can also be used in Finder.app: You can very easily set finder/spotlight comments via a Quicksilver-Plugin and then assemble all related items with a smart folder (or saved search from spotlight). e.g. Ⅰ have a projects.smartfolder that contains all my current projects’ folders (tagged with “@project,” of course), no matter where they are. You could also be more specific and just get all files tagged with “@recipe” and “@baking”… you get the idea.
