Getting things done with MacBreakZ

You may have read my [previous review](http://www.dekay.org/blog/archives/macbreakzs-return-to-osx-glorious-and-pretty) of [MacBreakZ](http://www.publicspace.net/MacBreakZ/), maybe you have heard about [RSI](http://www.dekay.org/blog/archives/rsi-prevention) or any computer related damages (such as the mouse arm). Today Ⅰ would like to present you a cool and quite different use of this nifty application.

_Use it to become more effective and more concentrated!_

MacBreakZ has the ability to force you to make breaks in your work, and it is very flexible and customizable this way. You could do a [procrastination dash](http://www.43folders.com/2005⁄09/08/kick-procrastinations-ass-run-a-dash/) and do work until the next break hits, then go away from your machine, do some stretches and get some coffeeâ€¦ and after that you may procrastinate orâ€¦ even get back to work.

Ⅰ have set my timer to 21 minutes with a 4 minute break. And Ⅰ find Ⅰ can keep on working for quite longer than if Ⅰ would not do any breaks, or irregular ones. The timing is enough to actually get things done, the break is short enough to not get distracted but get some distance and relaxation.

For me MacBreakZ is much more than just a tool to prevent any RSI-like injuryâ€¦ it does help to make me more productive, more concentrated and thus rich and famous and happy. (Ⅰ guess mostly the latter, but you get the ideaâ€¦)

DevonThink Pro usage notes

This thread in the DevonThink forums talks about various uses of DTP, but focusing on the “how to organize your Devon Think library.” There are multiple ways, each having its benefits — after all YOU need to be working with it, so in a way the structure might resemble the way you think or work. But it all comes down to utilizing the powers of teh DevonThink AI: group stuff together that needs to be grouped. Group similar stuff. File Things wherever they might belong. This way the AI learns and will help you later when filing new stuff where it might belong to.

You could also tag your files (e.g. via their comments) and then grab the tagged files via a smart folder (see 43Folders for a detailed article on this). btw a very useful feature that can also be used in Finder.app: You can very easily set finder/spotlight comments via a Quicksilver-Plugin and then assemble all related items with a smart folder (or saved search from spotlight). e.g. Ⅰ have a projects.smartfolder that contains all my current projects’ folders (tagged with “@project,” of course), no matter where they are. You could also be more specific and just get all files tagged with “@recipe” and “@baking”â€¦ you get the idea.

Ⅰ am slowly coming back from my vacation – today with a link to the Housekeeping blog.

Sidenotes:

1. Ⅰ have been bookmarking quite a bit without posting any noteworthy links to the blog, but if anyone is interested: del.icio.us has the links.
2. Ⅰ am no longer posting directly to delicious – but to spurl, as it keeps a cached copy of web pages around (which you can also update and keep versions of it), but it also does the job of posting to delicous for me so Ⅰ have a backup as well as a way to browse the bookmarks much more comfortable than on spurl. The two things on spurl Ⅰ miss are a. easier tagging (like in the delicious popup) and b. better browsing of bookmarks, my own and those tagged by others.
