Just realized that 10.4.3 is out.
But: SoftwareUpdate crashes like this:

Running >softwareupdate –ⅼ from the terminal gives me a „bus error“ after a while.
Trying now to install manually.
Update: Dienstag, 1. November 2005 16 : 45:33
Manual update worked fine. And now softwareupdate works again.
Ⅰ just read that Aspyr is going to publish the Mac version of Sid Meyer’s Civilization 4. And, of course, Brad Oliver is doing the port. He did a very great Job porting SMAC and SMAX to OSX – so Ⅰ am pretty certain this will be awesome! Since these days Brad has become some sort of my „personal hero“ – he was working on SMAC/X bug fixes as well as a OSX version without it being his main job – aka spare time – or personal self development or so. He was also very good at answering emails as well; so, Brad, if you read this: Thank you so much – you have made a considerable time of those days a very good time to live in. Ⅰ just hope SMAX will at least be recompiled to run on Intel Macs in th future – it is still the only game that Ⅰ play these days, and has been so for quite some years now. (Side note: are there any games out there that can compete with SMAX??).
Good times ahead – even though the port won’t be done till beginning/mid 2006.
The development of my alltime favorite reference manager „Bibdesk“ is proceeding nicely. The folks are adding many very useful features.
Feature of the day:

Ⅰ student of mine just told me about iNMR… and since Ⅰ like looking at α software (the version is supposed to be 0.0) Ⅰ gave it a shot.
First impression: horrible. No toolbar, nothing mac like, as far as Ⅰ am concerned. A look into the menu bar revealed some functions, but somehow Ⅰ was missing the functionalities of Win-NMR or XWin-NMR (which, of course is a) not a nice thing to do, comparing a newcomer to the old bastards and b) which is in itself unfair again, as both apps are not on OSX and have horrible interfaces.) But then Ⅰ gave it a try…
Second impression: well there are many functions available, Ⅰ accidentally started hitting keys on my keyboard and suddenly Ⅰ could do all sorts of things: integration, zooming, marking…
Third impression: the web based documentation is superb. The graphics are nice.. (and you can also take screenshots)

Summary:
This little app is very promising. It is ba far the best NMR app Ⅰ have seen on OSX so far, and this is just a very early pre-release. Although ⅰ am not very happy with a) the interface and b) the pricing (yes, it is very early and pre-release — Ⅰ can also understand why the makers are doing it, doesnt mean Ⅰ need to be happy with it!).
Ⅰ will give it a look later on – and Ⅰ might end up buying a license for myself – just to make pretty pictures for my thesis…
This app by DEVONtechnologies is a good tool when you have Spotlight disabled because of performance problems. It gives you back basic (or not so basic) search functions.
(Why would you need to disable spotlight? Ⅰ have had major performance problems with spotlight – up to the point where iTunes would not play songs without stuttering anymore. So Ⅰ just killed Spotlight. Now Ⅰ can find stuff again. Good.)
