• Connection – The milongueros improvise their dance in the moment because they know the music and connect with it. Their tango comes out of them; the music tells them what to do. There is no thinking going on, only feeling. Connection comes from one source — the music.

• How did Tango Bring out the Bitch in Me? – In my third year of dancing in this way, Ⅰ noticed something about myself. Firstly, Ⅰ felt confident with my dancing, which is a good thing. Ⅰ may not be the greatest dancer, but Ⅰ am competent and have musicality. Ⅰ am happy with my Tango. Secondly, Ⅰ started dancing less. Ⅰ became more choosy and maybe others became more choosy about dancing with me. Ⅰ started to complain more about the lack of good leaders. Ⅰ wasn’t the only one complaining. There were others. We would complain about everything – leadership, the venues, teachers, music, etc. Ⅰ cut back on going out. Nothing really changed. In fact, for me things got worse.

• ToTANGO DJ Forum – The music is the single most important element of a good milonga. My theory is that those DJs who really focus on the dancers and the overall social energy of the milonga often become partially or wholly transparent, such that the dancers really don't think about the music or the DJ, they just focus on dancing. They know the music is going to be good, which gives them a certain confidence. At these milongas, the pace of the night is calm, the dancers are in a trance, and the folks at the tables are joyously engaged in conversation.
