Reggaeton
After some browsing last week Ⅰ doscovered new cool latin music „Reggaeton“ (also spelled Reguetón). Originally it comes from Puerto Rico (starting in the mid/late 90s) and has its roots in dancehall, electronic, hip-hop genres, but also includes many features that make the sound quite „latino“. My first experience with a Reggaeton song was less enthusiastic – Ⅰ considered it to be a bit boring, maybe like merengue or bachata – but when you don’t just listen to the music but start dancing to it things change – at least for me.
Lots of cool dudes are talking about it here, although it seems Ⅰ am too late to the party. wikipedia has an article about Reggaeton with lots of background and history – as well as some links.
Mashup Show (blog/podcast) featured a Reggaeton-session in its 2005–06–13 show (second hour). A livestream of Reggaeton-Radio can be found at(http://www.perreoradio.com/radio) (mac users use this) – or check out this station (also featuring latin hiphop)
