… especially backup and “duplication”. bbum mentioned a while ago (back in 2002) where applications are supposed to be installed on OSX.
Recently, the question was posed — If not /Applications, then where does Apple suggest we install applications? The off the cuff answer is simple; make an Applications/ directory in your home account and stick the apps there. Works and works well. That Apple doesn’t automatically create that directory as a part of the default user template would seem to be an oversight on their part
Seems to be a good idea, but then I do not have a single place to get to my apps - I need to check multiple places to find apps. Or I just use Quicksilver - which makes me happy anyways.
But the remaining question is: Is there an easy way to work with an OSX system that still helps you when you need to do a re-install? Right now I need to keep track of changes in /Library as well as ~/ as well as /Applications - and probably even more folders that I do not think about.
