musicr - tagging for music?

Korby Parnell is looking for Flickr for Music. There are some good approaches to this. I think there are two approaches that can be useful:

  1. Automatic Music analysis. Let the computer scan the music, decide what it sounds like and find other muisc like it. Probably only turns up the same stuff and doesnt really expand your music horizon.
  2. Tag based systems / Folksonomies: Here you have people tag music with attributes and you need to filter out what you like and what not. Generally a much better and creative system but also tedious and error prone.

and of course then there is Amazon and iTMS with its “see also feature”. But then you are lost when it comes to independent artists and labels.

Here are some links to get started:

sometimes pics taken while dancing are the best.

the “me” tag on flickr is always a great browse. Tubaki has some interesting views of herself - inspiring as well as aesthetically pleasing. 8)

Improve your handwriting?

The Google Groups : 43 Folders is proving to be an interesting and inspiring read every day. The recent thread about Handwriting is really cool: Brandon’s original question was:

It boggles my mind how people can put pen to paper and have this beautiful script flow across the page. How many people have had to over-come horrible handwriting when moving over to the Hipster or moleskin? What resources have they used to improve their handwriting? Obviously practice, practice, practice and more practice is a part of the solution but what resources were used to develop style/form?

And pretty soon a link on the D’Nealean system for block-letter handwriting came up. I do not know what people in the US learned twenty years ago - but it sure looks quite like the style what I learned in elementary school back in the 80s. However - my handwriting still sucks - and the daily use of computers doesn’t make it better.

Another good link to learn italic handwriting (even more than that at the same page) contains the “classic” book Operina by Arrighi.
